Texas Population Definitions

Secondary Student Populations:

Completer: A student coded as Coherent Sequence or Tech Prep who completes at least two and one-half credits in career and technology education, passes the state required academic assessment and graduates or receives a GED.

Concentrator: The student must demonstrate intent to achieve proficiency equivalent to at least two and one-half credits in a coherent sequence of courses for career and technology preparation and meet all academic requirements.

Tech Prep: Tech Prep students demonstrates intent to pursue a coherent sequence of career technology courses in preparation for employment in a high-technology field for which their school district has developed an articulation agreement with a postsecondary institution and the agreement has been approved by the Texas Education Agency and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Students plan at least two years of secondary coherent sequence courses and at least two years of postsecondary training in that field after they graduate from high school. Tech Prep students are coded as “3” in the PEIMS system.
