“Nearly 75% of the nation's high school sophomores expect to earn a bachelor's degree or higher, and four in five rate getting a good education as "very important," according to a U.S. Department of Education study. Yet the study found that a large number of the sophomores -- 30% of white students and nearly two-thirds of minority students -- were not proficient in reading and mathematics.” (ECS summary)
