Hawaii’s state program emphases include: 1) Internet Career Kokua; 2) tools and resources for career development in multicultural and diverse settings; and 3) alignment of education, workforce and economic development. Hawaii is currently focusing on product development in the following categories: 1) Internet Career Kokua (CIDS Online); 2) student, parents, and counselor materials; and
3) training and presentations for systemic impact.

Plantation agriculture has declined. Tourism and military are key economic sectors. Construction and health care industries are rapidly expanding as economic engines. There is momentum to invest in innovative industries such as high technology, life sciences, film and digital, and diversified agriculture. Hawaii has a highly diverse population. In 2004, the largest ethnic groups in K-12 public schools were Hawaiian or Part Hawaiian (26%), Filipinos (20%), and Caucasian (14%). Also, special needs affected 51% of students. |

• Career Kokua: Over two hundred institutional subscribers have access to a full online career information delivery system and the public has access to unrestricted components. The system adheres to the Association of Computer System-based System for Career Information (ACSCI) standards and thus, career information is comprehensive and up-to-date.
• The Real Games Series: Hawaii conducted a February 2005 Train the Trainers training for Be Real and Real Life. Real was conducted to build a team of trainers for each of the four counties/major islands. Using the state DOE Standards Tool Kit, the Real Game for Middle School and Be Real for Early High School activities were cross walked with the DOE standards in the Career & Life Skills area.
• Other Quality Information Resources and Tools: Collaboration with various Statewide associations to introduce and present the new National Career Development Guidelines, O*NET, Parents’ Guides, Diversity and Assessments, and Promising or Evidence-based Career Intervention Initiatives and Activities.
